WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Raymond Spellman, 44, of Hudson, was arraigned today in Middlesex Superior Court and charged with one count of possession of child pornography.

Clerk Magistrate Matthew Day released the defendant on personal recognizance and ordered the defendant to have no unsupervised contact with children under the age of 18, to continue to undergo counseling, to not use social media or peer-to-peer networks, to provide all passwords and internet account information to the Probation Department and to make his phone available to the Probation Department upon request. The next scheduled hearing in this case is February 15.

In March of 2017, Massachusetts State Police received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children concerning the downloading and dissemination of child pornography allegedly traced to an internet service provider in Hudson, Massachusetts.

On May 30th, 2017, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Massachusetts State Police from the Computer Crimes Unit executed a search warrant on the defendant’s home on Dean Street in Hudson and confiscated the defendant’s laptop and cellphone.

Through their investigation authorities learned that the defendant’s Chatstep and Dropbox accounts were allegedly disabled by the companies due to the alleged content of the defendant’s downloads. Subsequently, Dropbox and Chatstep notified the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. A search warrant was executed on the defendant’s download history from Dropbox. An examination and further forensic analysis allegedly resulted in authorities locating approximately 600 digital files, including photographs and videos.

Spellman is a former Hudson Fire Department firefighter. He resigned from the Hudson Fire Department shortly after the execution of the search warrant. A Middlesex Superior Court Grand Jury indicted the defendant on November 16, 2017.

This charge is an allegation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Rachel Perlman.
