WALTHAM – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Derrick Lopez, 18, of Waltham was arraigned today in Waltham District Court in connection with the July 15, 2017 death of Christin Tobin, 36, of Waltham.

Lopez is charged with murder. Judge Gregory Flynn ordered the defendant held without bail. The next scheduled hearing in this case is August 29.

On Saturday, July 15, at approximately 2:40 a.m., Waltham Police responded to a report of an assault on a female. Upon entering the residence, police located the body of Christin Tobin. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has ruled the cause of death to be sharp force trauma to the head, neck, and upper torso.

The defendant was allegedly introduced to the victim by a third party. The preliminary investigation suggests that the defendant allegedly attacked the victim inside her room in the Adams Street boarding house, fatally stabbing her multiple times early Saturday morning.

This charge is an allegation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutors assigned to this case are Assistant District Attorneys Suzanne Kontz and Carrie Spiros. The Victim Witness Advocate is Danielle DeMeo.
