Lowell Woman Arraigned on Assault to Murder Charges inHammer Attack

LOWELL – A Lowell woman was arraigned today on assault with intent to murder charges for a brutal attack on a 41-year-old Lowell woman, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone informed the public today.
Jessica Garcia, 33, was arraigned today on changes of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and assault with intent to murder. Lowell District Court Judge Tobin Harvey ordered the defendant held on $250,000 cash bail and revoked her bail on two additional open cases in Lowell District Court.
Her next court date is July 17 for a probable cause hearing.
According to authorities at 6:49 a.m. on June 17, police responded to an apartment building on Branch Street where they discovered the 41-year-old victim on the floor suffering from severe head wounds. A claw hammer covered in blood was found near the victim.According to authorities, the victim suffered multiple blows from the claw side of the hammer to the head, face and neck.
The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition in a medically-induced coma.
These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Cara Krysil. The Victim Witness Advocate is Kathleen Keefe. This case was investigated by the Lowell Police Department.
