Nashua Man Convicted of Second Degree Murder

WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Roberto Lopez-Ortiz, 35, of Nashua, New Hampshire, was convicted by a Middlesex Superior Court jury today of second degree murder in connection with the 2013 death of 44-year-old Christiano Diaz-Arias of Lowell. Lopez-Ortiz was also convicted of assault with intent to rob. Judge Kathe Tuttman set sentencing for Wednesday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m.

On December 18, 2013, at approximately 8:11 p.m., Lowell Police responded to a report of a shooting on 2nd Street in Lowell. Upon arrival authorities found the victim, Christiano Diaz-Arias who had sustained two gunshot wounds; one to the head and one to the torso. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Through their investigation, authorities learned that Lopez-Ortiz and four other men had planned to commit an armed robbery of the victim in Lowell. Lopez-Ortiz was joined by three other men who proceeded to enter the victim’s apartment where a physical altercation took place. Another man assisted by serving as a lookout during the attempted robbery.

The prosecutors assigned to this case were Assistant District Attorney John McEvoy and Assistant District Attorney Marisa Tagliareni. The Victim Witness Advocate was Kristen Chamberlain.
